‘Defend the Welfare State’ demo (Saturday 10. April)

April 4, 2010

London, Saturday April 10th – Coaches from Brighton

The Brighton Benefits Campaign are organising a coach to this demonstration in London. The  demo is supported by a large number of trade unions and leftist groups. Tickets will be £3 – contact the Unemployed Workers Centre  (01273 540717).

9.30am Pick up from St Peters Church
4.30pm Return from London to Brighton

The welfare state isn’t simply a policy of a political party, but a class compromise reached when the ruling clasts feared that “we must give them reform or they will give us revolution.” Without that threat, it’s inevitable the welfare state will be attacked. So while demonstrations like this don’t change anything (remember the million plus anti-war march?), they do provide an opportunity to network with other workers active around similar struggles and campaigns elsewhere.
