Emergency protest against attack on Gaza aid ship
An emergency protest has been called for Monday 31. May, 6pm near the War Memorial at the Old Steine.
Israeli forces have attacked the international aid convoy Freedom Flotilla on its way to the besieged Gaza Strip, killing at least ten people and leaving more than 50 injured. The attack stopped six ships ferrying 700 people and 10,000 tonnes of supplies
As libertarian communists we believe in struggle based on our concrete human needs. Gazans have been suffering from a blockade imposed by the Israeli state for 3 years, a blockade that severely limits food and medical supplies with devastating effects. The flotilla that tried to break the blockade by delivering international humanitarian aid to Gaza presented a challenge to the Israeli state, a challenge they have now answered with vile brutality.
As internationalists we oppose the idea that the rulers and ruled within a nation share a common interest – The workers have no country. In fact the Israeli-Palestinian conflict continuously demonstrates the barbarism that nationalism brings about, which needs to be opposed from internationalist perspective on the basis of working class solidarity. We believe that this is the spirit in which ordinary people all over the world protest today against the murderous attack on the aid flotilla and in support of 1.5 million Gazans who are still starving.
